WIPO Director General Daren Tang welcomes Peru’s ratification of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications, and its accession to WIPO’s classification treaties: the Locarno Agreement, Nice Agreement, Strasbourg Agreement and Vienna Agreement.
The Geneva Act provides producers of quality products linked to origin, with faster and cheaper access to the international protection of their products’ distinctive designations. The classification treaties establish international classifications of goods and services for the registration of industrial designs (Locarno Agreement), trademarks (Nice Agreement), patents (Strasbourg Agreement) and figurative elements of marks (Vienna Agreement). These treaties help applicants looking for intellectual property protection determine whether their creation is new or owned/claimed by someone else.
Ambassador Luis Juan Chuquihuara Chil, Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, deposited the instruments of accession with WIPO Director General Daren Tang on July 18, 2022.
