Saudi Arabia Joins WIPO’s Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol

WIPO Director General Daren Tang welcomes Saudi Arabia’s accession to the Nairobi Treaty on the Protection of the Olympic Symbol. Saudi Arabia is the 54th contracting party to the Nairobi Treaty. All States party to the Nairobi Treaty are under the obligation to protect the Olympic symbol – five interlaced rings – against use for commercial purposes (in advertisements, on goods, as a mark, etc.) without the authorization of the International Olympic Committee.
Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Swailem, Chief Executive Officer, Saudi Authority for IP (SAIP), Saudi Arabia, deposited the instrument of accession with WIPO Director General Daren Tang on October 8, 2021.
